Ericsson, Telia, and Trafikverket Collaborate on FRMCS Testing in Sweden

In a significant step towards modernizing railway communications, Ericsson, Telia, and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) have initiated testing of FRMCS on a 40 km train route in Sweden. This collaboration is part of the FP2-MORANE-2 project and marks the first time FRMCS is being tested on a public mobile network. The goal is to transition from the existing 2G-based GSM-R system to a 5G-based FRMCS, enhancing digitalization and supporting advanced functionalities like Automatic Train Operation (ATO). The tests aim to ensure seamless communication across the railway network, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient transport system.
